  1. Adventure Almanac – the New Touratech Catalogue 2014/2015!

    Posted on

1,860 pages packed with smart ideas and innovations for motorcycles and touring

Touratech Catalogue 2014"Made for Adventure" – a theme that runs like a thread through the new Touratech catalogue, which is now available. And this does not only apply to BMW Adventure bikes, but to adventure riding in general – the promise of exploring the world on two wheels, meeting new people, discovering new places, and of course the fun of motorcycling.

On more than 1,860 pages (yes, it's even bigger than before!) Touratech presents an extensive range of products for all current adventure and touring motorbikes, with many interesting new developments for almost every model. True to form, Touratech already offers all kinds of accessories for the new BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, and some sensational footage from the world's first adventure trip with this bike is on the way – the film from the test tour in Zimbabwe will be out in early summer. The Black Forest accessory manufacturers also turned their attentions to the new BMW R 1200 RT, giving the touring boxer some added extras.

But there's so much more in the new Touratech catalogue: plenty of bright ideas for touring and motorcycling, the biggest ever range of proprietary seats, the latest GPS and outdoor products, and Touratech's new version of the Compañero – the Compañero Boreal. This Touratech riding suit is made from a high-quality three-layer laminate with climate membrane. It is designed to be perfect for bikers who see little of the southern sun but frequently take to the road in rainy northern climes.

Touratech has created a limited edition Dakar collection to celebrate the legend of the famous rally and commemorate its own sporting history with a Touratech Dakar team. Featuring exciting styling and officially licensed designs, the products range from T-shirts and polo shirts, jackets, caps and scarves, to rucksacks, bags and rackpacks.

The Touratech Suspension range has grown significantly and now includes Touratech Suspension DDA Plug & Travel – the world's first semi-active suspension system for the R 1200 GS, specially developed for challenging adventure riding.

You can find all this and much more in the new Touratech catalogue, which as usual contains a large editorial section to browse at leisure: travel reports from Africa, Iceland, Morocco and Arizona, a look back at the Travel Event and BMW Motorrad GS Trophy in Niedereschach, and lots of information about what's been happening at Touratech.
To help you navigate your way through this mammoth publication, the Touratech catalogue includes a detailed index and clear table of contents. The first section is dedicated to special parts for specific motorbikes, with individual models sorted alphabetically and in descending order of engine size. The middle part contains sections on luggage, seats, Touratech Suspension and universal motorcycle accessories, followed by rider, navigation and travel equipment.

Two hundred thousand copies of the 2014/2015 Touratech catalogue with its 1,860 pages are being printed in five different languages and will be available at all major trade shows and events where Touratech is represented, as well as from Touratech distributors.

Copies can be ordered by phone, e mail or via the internet – free of charge, as always – and soon the catalogue will also be available online at www.touratech.com. The online version is designed to work on smartphones and tablets as well.

  2. Touratech Celebrates the Spirit of Dakar

Limited edition collection pays homage to the legendary desert rally

Toratech Dakar CollectionWithout a shadow of doubt, the Dakar is the toughest rally in the world. Touratech has created its own collection featuring officially licensed DakarTM designs to celebrate the history of this legendary rally. Awesomely styled shirts, jackets, caps, bags, rucksacks and more let you live the spirit of Dakar. Many items are already available from the Touratech web shop.

Touratech has various links with Dakar that go back to the early 1990s, when the Black Forest accessory specialists first got involved with the rally. Jutta Kleinschmitt and Michael Griep bolted an IMO 100R into their cockpit as they set off for Africa in 1994.

Twice Touratech actually lined up for the start – in 2001 with French rider Didier Py on a Touratech F 650 Rallye, and in 2002 with their own full team of five riders. Touratech caused a sensation by becoming the first team in the history of this extreme desert rally to get two motorcycles with injection engines to the finish line at Lake Retba. And not to forget Charley Boorman's "Race to Dakar" in 2006 – the motorbikes for this project were built up by Touratech at Niedereschach.

Even though Touratech no longer send their own team to the race, they are still represented at the Dakar. For several years, Touratech has supplied French company ERTF with "made in Niedereschach" equipment for the competition bikes and quads, such as IriTrack holders and special handlebar mounts for Dakar GPS devices.

All good enough reasons to produce a special Touraatech DakarTM collection in close partnership with the organiser, ASO. Elaborately designed T-shirts and polo shirts in women's and men's cuts, a range of caps, a trendy hoodie, scarf and beanie for cold weather and a mouse mat with exclusive DakarTM styling are already available. More products including jackets, bags, caps, rucksacks and rackpacks are on the way.

The DakarTM collection appears in the new Touratech catalogue, which is available from 10th January 2014, and in the Touratech web shop at www.shop.touratech.com

for the New BMW R 1200 GS Adventure:

Dream Ship for Real Adventurers Among large capacity adventure bikes, the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is regarded as an icon and is the dream ship of many adventure riders.

Following the explosive launch of the liquid cooled R 1200 GS at the start of the season, BMW presented the eagerly awaited Adventure model with its new engine and drive concept at the EICMA in Milan. Based on a rich wealth of experience gained from hundreds of thousands of kilometres of travel experience, Touratech presents the new R 1200 GS Adventure in a full long-distance trim.

There is unlikely to be another company that is so deeply involved in the topic of long-distance travels and adventure riding as Touratech.

This know-how is used for developing new accessories and enables Touratech to optimize even ultimate long-distance bikes such as the new Adventure model. As development partner of BMW Motorrad, Touratech founder Herbert Schwarz took the new dream ship for adventurers on its maiden voyage through South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. And, of course, the specifically developed Touratech products were part of this intensive test.

Touratech offers a comprehensive range of accessories for the new R 1200 GS Adventure. These of course include ZEGA Pro and ZEGA Pro2 panniers and pannier racks, comfort and sports seats in various designs and heights, the highly robust engine guard "Expedition" (also in XL!), a radiator guard which protects the sensitive ribs against damage, manifold -, cardan -, frame - and ABS sensor protection, folding brake levers and rearview mirrors, headlight protectors and hand guards as well as spoilers for the original hand protectors, etc.

Handlebar risers by 15 mm and a higher windscreen provide greater comfort, and relocating the cardan ventilation is an absolute must on long tours. Be it soft pack solutions, GPS bracket adapters or "Works" foot rests - the accessory range for the new BMW R 1200 GS Adventure is available at shop.touratech.com and will be listed in the new Touratech catalogue available as from 10. Posted on

Riders of the new R 1200 GS now have the choice: In addition to the noble black and the sporty black and white edition, Touratech now offers the expandable tank bag of the new Ambato series in dashing red.

The 'Ambato Exp limited red' does not only perfectly match with the “racing red” of the R 1200 GS, but also adds some fresh colours to different-coloured models. This modernly designed tank bag offers both the outstanding equipment and the quality of the Ambato Exp tank bags, excitingly combined with an exclusive colour and material mix.

For this purpose, Touratech does not use a simple nylon, but tearproof Cordura fabrics with robust waterproof tarpaulin inserts. Reflective surfaces made of 3M Scotchlite ensure excellent visibility; fluorocarbon impregnation and Teflon-coating offer protection against moisture, dirt, oil and fading. The 'Ambato Exp limited red' does not only feature a vehicle specific, exactly fitting base plate for a safe hold, but some smart details, too. It comes with an inside pocket with Velcro lid fastening, an organizer with mini-bag, a map pocket as well as reflective drawstrings to quickly attach gloves or a rain coat. With its comfortable carrying handle, the tank bag also looks good when taken off the motorbike. With the supplied straps, it can be also used as a rucksack or a shoulder bag.

Like all tank bags by Touratech, the Ambato Exp limited red is made by Kahedo in Germany and is highly durable even under extreme conditions. Now available as limited edition of 100 pieces.

They have also provided equipment for other adventure trips, working with celebrities including comedian Ross Noble and actor Danny John-Jules.

Nick Plumb, Touratech MD has competed in the Dakar Rally 4 times, completing the rally on his first and last attempt. He also features heavily in Race to Dakar.
