1. Riders for Health to attend BMF shows in 2013

   Riders for Health, the official charity of MotoGP™, have added two new UK motorcycle shows to their events calendar for 2013: The British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) Show,18th-19thMay, and BMF Tailend,14th-15th September, both to be held at the Peterborough Arena (formerly The East of England Show ground.

   Riders will have a stand in the new Adventure and Overland Touring area with their off-road fundraising ride to Zambia.Experience Africa is not your typical off-road motorcycle tour. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the inspiring work being done in Zambia by Riders for Health and see how motorcycles are saving lives in Africa.

   Riders for Health have also launched a new raffle for 2013 to win a free place on Experience Africa in either May or November 2014. For your chance to win this incredible prize worth £4,800, visit Riders for Health’s stand at either of the BMF Shows held at Peterborough and buy a ticket for just £1.

   Riders will also be selling raffle tickets at Carole Nash MCN Motorcycle Show,British Superbikes races, Day of Champions and the British MotoGP and World Superbike races at Silverstone. The raffle will be drawn at the BMF Tailend Show on 15th September.

   The BMF Show in May is Europe’s largest outdoor motorcycle show, with over 40,000 people expected to attend over the weekend. The Tailend Show is the end of season party for motorcyclists and traders across the country.

   Riders for Health will be joined at the BMF events by special guests and previous Experience Africa participants who will share their stories from the ride. Visit Riders’ stand in the Adventure and Overland Touring area to have a chat with the team and see a Yamaha AG200 on display. The motorcycles that are ridden on Experience Africa are the same bikes that health workers use to deliver vital health care in Zambia.

   At the BMF Show in May, there will even be the chance to sign up for an outdoor practise ride on an AG200. Ride leader Gary Taylor will talk you through the basics of riding off-road and explain why the AG200 is so perfectly suited to the harsh African terrain. Spaces will be limited for the rides so make sure you put your name down early at Riders’ stand.

   Riders have teamed up with the BMF in the hope of introducing many more people to the charities’ life-saving work. Riders for Health provide health workers in Africa with reliable motorcycles so that they can reach rural villages with vital health care on a regular basis. They teach health workers to ride safely in the difficult terrain and local men and women are trained to maintain the vehicles so that they never break down.

2. Manchester Salvation Army Toy - Cancelled

   As THE BIKER GUIDE attended this run each year it is with sadness that we make this announcement.  

   Owing to the Financial climate and the many costs involved to organise this toy run, it will no longer take place.

3. I Will Ride 500 Miles!

   As motorcyclists we all know the amount of fundraising events for good causes and charities that goes on each year that are organised and run by motorcyclists, clubs and motorcycle organisations. 

   In Northern Ireland riders raise thousands of pounds each year for these various causes from Children’s Wards, Christmas Appeals, MRI Scanner Appeals, Dog Homes, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and the NABD (National Association of Bikers with a Disability) and many more.      

   These events are replicated across the UK, but this time, funding raising with a difference has reach our inbox from the Boundary 500 Motorcycle group based in England.      

   The group has received the blessing of pre-eminent folk duo The Proclaimers and now look set to launch one of the year’s most unlikely attempts at making the pop charts.      

   The Boundary 500 Motorcycle group has enlisted the help of North-East band The Happy Cats, fronted by ex-Lindisfarne vocalist Marty Craggs, in re-recording I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers’ signature song.  Sales of the song will raise money for two of the region’s best-loved charities, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice.

   The lyrics of the song have been changed to reflect the bikers’ dedication to the two causes, and the song itself has been given the new title I’m Gonna Ride 500 Miles.   Brian Laverick, leader of the Boundary 500 group, said: “It’s been a lot of hard work putting this together, but the end product is something I think we can be really proud of. We even got the thumbs up from The Proclaimers themselves. Song sales of about 3,000 in the week should see us enter the top 40 which would be a phenomenal achievement in itself, but would also raise lots of money for these two great charities.”  

   Mark Guidery, chief executive at Zoë’s Place, said: “Brian and his group continue to amaze us with their fundraising efforts. We hope residents of the region get behind the group’s latest efforts and provide a real boost to our fundraising in the run up to Christmas.”  

   Grahame Pickering, chief executive of GNAAS, said: “The charities get a donation for every single sold, so we are hoping all our supporters get behind this fantastic fundraiser.”   The Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group was formed in June 2006 and was established primarily to support GNAAS and later added to its nominated charities Zoë's Baby Hospice.  

   The Group takes its name from the approximate distance around the boundary area of the air ambulance charity. Every year, bikers from the group ride the 500 mile journey to boost fundraising. It has raised more than £310,000 for GNAAS and £106,000 for Zoë’s Place since it began.  

   In a statement, Charlie and Craig Reid, of the Proclaimers, said: “Our very best wishes to the Happy Cats’ and everyone in the Boundary 500”

   At Right To Ride we think that the Boundary 500 may be on to a hit with the recording of the Proclaimers 500 miles/bikes.

4. Open Air Riders Merseyside

   Over breakfast on one of our rideouts we came up with a crazy idea to help our chosen charity Neurosupport. 

   So after lots of work and planning twenty of us brave bikers, girls and boys stripped naked for a charity calendar (tastefully done, nothing can be seen). Each month is a funny theme including lots of bikes but all for a serious cause as Neurosupport (Registered Charity Number: 1114999) support people with neurological conditions along with their families and carers and as we found out that includes many bikers.
