  2. The no-holds barred full length follow up to 2011’s runaway success ‘I Superbiker’ will be released in over 100 cinemas across the UK on February 21st with additional screenings on March 1st.

The 21st February premiere event will be beamed live into over 100 cinemas across the UK and Ireland. Omniverse Vision will stage the live satellite broadcast, which will include a 30 minute Q&A with British Superbike Champion and star of the film, Tommy Hill, together with fellow showdown riders Shane Byrne and Michael Laverty. Joining them onstage will be British Superbikes series director Stuart Higgs and film director; Mark Sloper. The host for the evening will be ex-champion and TV commentator James Whitham

Following on from 2011’s ground-breaking ‘I Superbiker’ – the original in a succession of motorbike movies that year which included ’TT3D’ and ‘Fastest’ - the film is being distributed by Omniverse Vision, in association with MCE Insurance sponsored British Superbike Championship (BSB) and Motorcycle News (MCN).  ‘I Superbiker  – The Showdown’ is the high octane, all action, nail-biting wheel to wheel story of the 2011 British Superbike season which saw the most exciting final race in its history – arguably the most exciting motorcycle race of all time.

A new electrifying format for 2011, which left only 6 riders competing for the title in a series of dramatic showdowns:

    - Japanese Ryuichi Kiyonari reigning champion, - beset with personal problems as he attempts to defend his crown.
    - Bad boy Australian Josh Brookes - runner up in 2010 and determined to battle his way to the top, no matter what.
    - Ex BSB champ, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne - fans’ favourite and all round good guy, desperate to regain the crown for prides sake.
    - Michael Laverty - the Irish Flyer aiming to put his stamp on the title for his country.
    - Ex Moto GP star John Hopper Hopkins - back to racing after overcoming his personal demons and substance abuse problems, is the first American with a realistic chance of winning the title.
    - British hero Tommy Hill - who so spectacularly lost the title in 2010 by one small error, and absolutely determined to prove himself the British Superbike champion.

As well as capturing stunning on-track action, ‘I SUPERBIKER  – THE SHOWDOWN’ goes behind the scenes to follow the unfolding drama among wives, girlfriends, teammates and managers. Everyone wants their rider to win and passions are aroused when things go wrong. The film’s writer, producer and director Mark Sloper of 400 TV commented: “I wanted to capture the emotion and passion of motorcycle racing and the drama of the new showdown format – a classic motorcycle racing film that might be set in the 2011 season but with a classic story that can still be fresh in years to come”. He added, "I also wanted it to appeal to people outside of the motorcycle industry and fan-base. And I wanted to try and change outsiders’ perceptions of motorcycling”.

BSB champion Tommy Hill commented, "British Superbikes is motorcycle racing at its very best and this film shows that brilliantly. It's amazing to see BSB on the cinema screen. It's a massive sport with a great following - now hopefully people who don't know it that well can see what an incredible event it is”.

"We are very excited to bring this soon to be biking classic to cinema screens in the UK and internationally. After our success with Fastest, it is clear that there is a significant audience for motor-sport features in many countries and and we look forward to building on the initial success that Mark (Sloper) and his team, created with the I Superbiker last year," Grant Calton, Omniverse Vision CEO.

Presented in stunning 2k digital cinema, with an original film score by David Vanian of the Damned and music by Phil Collen of Def Leppard and Manraze. ‘I, Superbiker  – The Showdown’ will be shown in cinemas nationwide on February 21st (with live Q&A via satellite) and March 1st 2012. Tickets are due to go on sale shortly.

  3. Harley Davidson Club Ireland (HDCI) is sorry to announce that they have had to cancel next years European SuperRally® (40th anniversary) event, which was due to be held on 16th to 20th May 2013 at Waterford Institute of Technology Sports Campus, Carriganore, Waterford.

Following consultations with An Garda Siochana, it was determined that a significant level of policing supports and resources to effectively police the event safely were necessary. The cost for providing the policing plan was estimated that it could rise to or beyond €300,000, making it cost prohibitive for the club to host the five day event in Ireland.

HDCI would also like to thank all stakeholders including; Waterford City & County Councils, City Manager, WIT Campus Services, Waterford Spraoi, Michael Slattery Associates, Failte Ireland, Federation Harley Davidson Clubs of Europe, Stenna Ferries, An Garda Siochana, all local political representatives and members of Harley Davidson Club Ireland for their help and assistance.

They wish every success to Harley Davidson Club Poland who will now be hosting the 2013 SuperRally® event.

  4. Would you like to appear before millions of people around the world? The search is on for motorbike owner/riders with disabilities, and their bikes, to ride in the Stadium at the Paralympic Opening ceremony.

We are looking for a completely diverse collection of bikes and bikers, all with disabilities, and you would need to be available for the ceremony – 29th August 2012 - plus a few rehearsals immediately prior to the ceremony.  Because of security regulations at the stadium, you would also have to leave your bike with us for a few days before the ceremony, so this would need to be a bike that you do not use as a vital part of your daily life! You do not need to have any previous performance experience, but just the willingness to celebrate the diversity of modern Britain in an exciting moment in the Paralympic Opening ceremony.

If you are interested in being part of this once in a lifetime opportunity please email the following citing MOTORBIKES in the subject title to: [email protected]

    1.       A photo of you and your bike.

    2.       Your contact details (name, address, email, phone number).

We will then contact you directly if we would like you to be involved.

Closing date for applications is 21st February 2012.  You would then need to be available to visit us in East London by mid-March to give us ID and other details for security purposes.

This is a volunteer role; however, we can pay some travel expenses within London.

  5. The current British Superbike champion Tommy Hill is gearing-up for a guest appearance at the annual Adelaide Motorcycle Festival which begins a three-day run at the King’s Hall, Belfast on February 10.

Hill who will celebrates his 27thbirthday the day before the show opens was involved in a cliff-hanging finish to the 2011 title race decider.

“I did it by half-a-wheel,” reflected Hill. “In fact the official difference between myself and John Hopkins was just 0.006 of a second.”

“That meant the championship was mine for the first time but it was close, I won it with two points to spare.”

“So far as Belfast is concerned I’m really looking forward to the trip. The fans over there are both fanatical and knowledgeable.”

Hill has sampled both the World Superbike and World Supersport Championships but he was originally a motocrosser. At the early age of six Hill quickly moved to high level schoolboy motocross. However, at the age of 14 he had a near fatal motorcycle accident which caused him to briefly retire from the sport. But Hill still had an ambition to race and ride motorcycles and he soon returned making his debut in the British Championship in 2001. This was to be his first stepping stones into the world of Superbike racing. Since then he has become the youngest rider to win a Superbike race, the youngest rider ever to qualify on pole position at a World Superbike Championship event and of course last year he became a BSB champion for the first time.

Hill who, hails from Kent, won seven races last season. He had 17 podium finishes, nine pole positions and eight fastest laps. No wonder he has been retained by Swan-Yamaha where his team-mate is Yorkshire’s Ian Hutchinson who will also grace the Festival.

“Hill promises to be a huge draw,” said show promoter Billy Nutt. “That never-to-be forgotten final race at Brands Hatch has already gone down in the history books as the closest-ever.”

“Hutchy created his own piece of history back in 2010 when he became the only rider to win five Isle of Man TT races in the same week,” added Nutt. “But at the end of that season he was involved in an horrific crash not of his making.”

“It took him 18-months to recover and last November he set the Macau Grand Prix alight by finishing third.”

For his part Hutchinson said: “This year is definitely a big one for me and I have never been looking forward to a season so much.”

“I am glad that I had the opportunity to race at the end of last year as I have always had faith in my own ability but I just needed to prove to any doubters that I could still race. I have wanted to race in BSB for several years.”

“However, right now I’m focused on another visit to Belfast—I’ve some very fond memories of both the North-West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix and I intend doing both again this year.”

Hill and Hutchinson will be joined at the King’s Hall complex by Alistair Seeley the recently crowned Enkalon Irish Motorcyclist of the Year.

Seeley who won the British Supersport title last year is now preparing for a return to the Superbike ranks again riding for the Tyco TAS Suzuki team.

So far as the display of racing machinery is concerned Nutt is delighted to have a rather special factory Yamaha taking pride of place.“This is the bike on which Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo won the 2010 MotoGP world championship,” said Nutt. “It’s thanks to Hurst Motorcycles that this Yamaha will be brought over from Holland.”

“We are also banking on the Ballymoney-based JMF Millsport team unveiling their new Ducatis as well as their rider Steve Mercer.”Home
