  1. Dunlop celebrates final 125cc World Champion Nico Terol

    Dunlop heralds newly crowned 125cc World Champion Nico Terol (Bankia Aspar Team 125cc) who took his title in fine fashion with a podium finish at the Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana yesterday.

    Terol wins the 63rd and final 125cc World Championship as the category now comes to a conclusion, to be replaced next year by Moto3. The final race was won by Spaniard Maverick Viñales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing). It was Dunlop’s 133rd consecutive race win in the open tyre competition championship.

    Spaniard Terol came into the event needing to finish in 11th position or higher to secure his title. He was handed a gift as his rival Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) fell on lap 3. Zarco needed to win the race with Terol finishing lower than eleventh for Terol to be denied his crown. The final standings saw Terol on 302 points from Zarco’s 262 with Viñales third with 248.

    For Dunlop as well as motorcycle racing it is an end of an era. Dunlop tyres contested the very first 125 cc World Championship round in 1949 and as well as this final event. In between, there have been countless wins for Dunlop tyres. Despite open tyre regulations, the last time a tyre manufacturer other than Dunlop was represented on the top step of the podium was in 2003.

    Next season, Moto3 makes its debut to replace the 125cc World Championship and Dunlop tyres will adorn every competitor thanks to Dunlop having been awarded the exclusive tyre supply contract for this exciting new series.

    The first Moto3 test takes place today (Monday November 7) at the Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana.

    After taking the Manufacturer World Title, it's a double win for the Italian brand in the 125's last season.

    This makes the 38th world championship for Aprilia in Motorcycle Grand Prix racing. Aprilia has now won 49 World Championships in the various motorcycle disciplines.

    Noale, November 6th, 2011 - With the second place earned today on the Valencia circuit Nico Terol was crowned 2011 World Champion in the 125 class.

    This is a long sought after confirmation for the young Spanish rider, born in Alcoy on September 27th, 1988.

    In the race which closed out the history of the 125 class, eleventh place would have been enough for Terol to take the title. But after Frenchman Johann Zarco crashed out in the beginning stages of the race - the only rival within reach of the title - Terol lost no time, even moving into first place ten laps from the end, and rode his Aprilia RSA to second place behind Maverick Viñales, also astride an Aprilia.

    With confirmation Aprilia adds the 125 class rider title to the manufacturer title, already awarded four rounds before the end of the championship, and strengthens its record as the most victorious Italian and European manufacturer of all those active in MotoGP with 294 Grand Prix races won (151 in 125 and 143 in 250) and 38 championship titles (19 manufacturer titles and 19 rider titles).

    Aprilia now has a total of 49 World Championships in their trophy case.

    In fact, in addition to the 38 MotoGP titles, there are 9 titles in the Off Road discipline and 2 Superbike titles in the collection.

  3. Dunlop Motorcycle welcomes new product manager

    The Dunlop Tyres Motorcycle division is pleased to welcome Mark Sears to the team as Product Support Manager as of 1st October 2011.

    The position has been filled internally by Mark who has 23 years of experience with Dunlop. Mark directly replaces Bryn Phillips.

    Mark began as an apprentice with Dunlop in 1988 and after three years with the company moved into the motorsport division. Over the space of 20 years Mark has worked with a number of winning teams at some of the largest championships around the world including WSB, World Endurance/GP, AMA, BSB and IDM.

    Most recently Mark sat in the position of Chief Design Engineer for Dunlop Motorcycle Motorsport and his expertise in tyre design and technology are second to none. Mark has patents for the D208 and D208A and was the co designer on Dunlop’s first 16.5 inch rear slick tyre.

    As a rider himself Mark has a wide range of experience with both race and road products and currently rides a Ducati Monster.

    Mark comments: “I am really pleased to join the ever improving Dunlop motorcycle marketing team. The entire motorcycle product range is the youngest and strongest we have ever had. We also have new products on the horizon and I can’t wait to increase my involvement with our consumers & dealers via our ‘Race to Road’ program.     Mark will report directly to Andy Marfleet, Dunlop Brand Manager, as well as having a close working relationship with Dunlop Motorcycle SBU Manager Dominic Clifford and the Dunlop Motorcycle Sales team.

  5. The name is DIAVEL - The innovative new Ducati to be unveiled at the Milan show

    After months of speculation and spy photography the long wait is almost over, the Diavel will make its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan 2-7 November.

    Officially announcing the new model’s name ahead of the official presentation, the famous Italian manufacturer is about to turn another dream into reality, using the local Bolognese dialect word for “devil” in naming their new model Diavel – pronounced Dee-ah-vel.

    The idea for the name was born early in the development process of the bike, when the prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians for the first time. One person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurànt comm’ al diavel!” Meaning: “Evil, like the devil!”

    From then on, Diavel became the internal nickname for the project, which Ducati now makes official as it approaches the upcoming unveiling in Milan. Reminiscent of how the “Monster” was named 20 years ago, the Diavel is now destined to follow the same Bolognese tradition, shaping the future of motorcycling while staying faithful to its heritage.

    Built to have a commanding presence, though lightweight and agile like all Ducatis, the Diavel will take the man-motorcycle relationship to the next level in absolute comfort. For connoisseurs of technology, ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes will deliver a confidence-inspiring sophistication while stunning looks, the Superbike-derived Testastretta 11° engine and 207kg (456lb) of authentic Ducati performance will drive a comfortable sport lifestyle that could only be dreamt of until now.

    The Diavel will make its UK debut at Motorcycle Live from the 27th November to the 5th December.
