PAIN, SUFFERING AND LOSS OF AMENIETY

Pain and suffering after a bike accident is quite straight forward and almost every biker knows about pain and suffering! It is the amount of pain and suffering that you experience as a result of the bike accident. It is always wise to keep a diary on a daily basis to show the amount of pain you are experiencing. Put it in your own words, you will find it invaluable in the future. As well as your symptoms, it is also advisable to list the amount and type of medication you are on. 

Do not leave it all to the medical specialist and lawyers, as the more you do in this regard, the better the settlement is likely to be.

Loss of amenity means exactly what it says. If you used to dance or engage in a particular sport or pastime before your bike accident, but can no longer do so because of the bike accident, then our bike lawyers will want to know about it. That also includes motorcycling. In some cases it is the only form of transport the claimant has, but in others, biking is purely a fun thing. Any loss of enjoyment is claimable.

FINANCIAL LOSS AFTER A BIKE ACCIDENT

This is commonly known as ‘out of pocket expenses’.

This can be: Loss of earnings Loss of bonus or commission Travel costs where you are unable to ride or drive yourself. Prescription costs. Repair costs. Medical specialist cost. Legal costs. The cost of personal or domestic care. (This can be a relative or partner) Keep a diary off all the tasks they have to carry out for you and the amount of time they take to do it.

Once again, we cannot emphasize the importance of keeping a diary of all costs accrued. Costs must be justifiable. You can reasonably be expected to be assisted in and out of bed when you have a broken leg after a bike accident. But this becomes unreasonable if you have a broken finger. Always be able to fully justify your costs and expenditure as your opponent’s lawyers will scrutinise these in minute detail in an effort to minimize what you are claiming for. Remember, a Judge will not look too favourably on a claim where the claimant has been found to have tried to exceed the bounds of reasonableness. One small instance of such an attempt can lead to your credibility being damaged, and thereafter your claim failing because the Judge simply cannot rely upon your word.

Important to remember: Always keep receipts, as failure to provide written and documentary proof of your out of pocket expenses may result in them not being awarded at all.

Following our successful return to Donington Park in early February with The 12th Classic Japanese and European Motorcycle Show, ClassicShows are pleased to announce that plans for this weekends two day event at Donington Park are progressing particularly well.

To date we will have club displays from The Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, Honda Goldwing Club, Early Stocks Racing Club, Kawasaki Z1 OC etc plus around 40 privately entered classic Japanese motorcycles. In addition the exhibition hall is almost totally full with around 40 of the leading traders relevant to the classic Japanese market in attendance and less than 10 of the 150 or so stands left unallocated two days before the show opens on Saturday.

A team of eight motorcyclists from road safety charity, the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) are undertaking a sponsored tour of the British Isles in June to promote motorcycle safety and raise money for the Association of Air Ambulances. 
 
The ride begins on Monday 18 June, Ride to Work day, from the Ace Cafe London, finishing on Sunday 24 June at the Bikefest event in Shrewsbury.
 
Over the week-long tour, they will be visiting Christchurch, Bournemouth, Bassetts Pole, Newcastle, Glasgow and Belfast.
 
On Friday 22 June, Belfast will see a world record attempt for the most makes and models of motorcycles in a single parade. Supporters include the Quay Vipers Motorcycle Club, Adelaide Insurance Services, Days Hotel, Stena Line, Fiat and Bridgestone Tyres.
 
IAM chief executive Simon Best said: “Motorcyclists are some of the most vulnerable road users, but anyone that rides appreciates the enjoyment, convenience, and freedom that motorcycling brings.
 
“Our aims are to teach riders how to continue to enjoy their riding safely, and to better educate all road users to understand the needs of the individuals they share the road with. We are delighted to be supporting the Association of Air Ambulances, and raising money for this vital cause. Tragically, riding does sometimes go wrong and the quick response service they provide is vital in saving lives.”

This year the American Memorial Remembrance Ride will take place on Armed Forces Day, which is Saturday 30th June 2012. 

Over 600 bikers and their machines are expected at the Cambridge Services on the A14 who will then ride along the A14 in ahuge convoy and through Cambridge to Madingly. 
 
This event is for all Bikers from across the United Kingdom, United States and Canada who are invited to attend the fourth Allied Memorial Remembrance Ride creating one ride in three Nations, its riders united in remembrance of our fallen heroes from the allied forces, past and present, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
 
The UK ride will take place in Cambridge with a short service being held at the American War Cemetery in Madingley, Cambs. There will aslo be a salute and flypast by a Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

This event has been organised by members of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, a UK charity that safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces. We are recognised as custodians of Remembrance. This ride is open to all bikers, you do not have to be a member of the Royal British Legion Riders to take part. In 2011 alone over £2,300 was handed over to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
