Ace Cafe Xmas Toy RunThe cafe's annual Christmas Toy Run into central London departs at 11am on Sunday 15th December to attend the children's wards of three hospitals:

    St Mary's (Paddington) 11.45am - 12.15pm
    Royal Brompton (Chelsea) 1pm - 1.30pm
    Evelina Children's Hospital (Westminster) 2pm - 2.30pm

As always, any surplus gifts will be distributed to various children's homes and groups.

Please bring gifts that are wrapped and labelled Boy/Girl/Age Group

Because of allergies hospitals advise against stuffed toys and sweets - the nursing staff however may appreciate some sweeties!

On returning to the cafe, there will be prizes for the "Best Dressed Bike" and the "Best Dressed Rider" - and a hot cuppa!

NB: After 15 years of "heading up" the toy run, Ron Miles will be retiring. He said "I started this run back in 1998, and have attended the event every year. It has been wonderful to see the smiles of the kids who are in hospital, and also to see the smiles of the riders who take part - it's a very emotional experience, and I would like us to make this year a big one!"

  3. HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge visits the Ducati stand at Motorcycle Live

HRH Prince William Tim Maccabee (Managing Director Ducati UK Ltd) Ducati DiPrince William, Duke of Cambridge, made a special visit to the Ducati stand on Saturday, 30 November, as part of his official trip to the Motorcycle Live event at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England.

Tim Maccabee, Managing Director, Ducati UK Ltd hosted the Royal guest, introducing him to the features of the brand new Ducati Monster 1200, in addition to the Ducati Diavel, which the Duke climbed aboard when prompted by a member of the public who shouted: "Go on, get on it!"

With a smile, Prince William duly pleased the crowd by trying the Diavel for size, before meeting former Ducati British Superbike Champion, Shane Byrne, with whom he shared some comments on the enjoyment of riding Ducati Motorcycles.

The Duke also took the opportunity of his visit to have a closer look at the new Ducati 1199 Superleggera, which was making its UK debut at the packed show. The limited edition model of only 500 represents the most exclusive and desirable Ducati in the range and with components in magnesium, carbon fibre, and titanium, the model boasts the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle in history.

“It was a real pleasure and an honour to host HRH Prince William on our stand,” commented Tim Maccabee. “He was pleased to take a look around and certainly seemed to enjoy sitting on the different models. He commented on how light the Diavel was, but I think he favoured the 1199 Superleggera.”

The visit was completed with a look at the new Ducati 899 Panigale and an overview of the Ducati TriOptions Cup series in which the model will compete, announced for 2014 as a support race within the British Superbike Championship.

  5. Motorcycle Live hails royal turnout

    Posted on

Motorcycle Live 2013 came to a close today after a nine-day biking bonanza at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham with organisers claiming it as one of the best shows ever.

Exhibitors declared themselves delighted with both the quality and quantity of visitors, of whom more than 106,000 poured through the doors of the NEC into four halls filled with motorcycling.

With more than 230 exhibitors covering 65,000m2 of NEC hall space, Motorcycle Live opened its doors on 23 November and has been packed with live features, shows, entertainment and even a cinema showing a movie on British motorcycle racers commissioned especially for the show.

As well as a number of important new model launches, Motorcycle Live has also featured no fewer than nine opportunities to ride motorcycles, eight of which were within the halls of the NEC. Along with the live features and entertainment, all these were free with the entry price.

HRH Prince William Duke of Cambridge at Motorcycle LiveThe show received a right royal boost on its penultimate day when HRH Prince William Duke of Cambridge visited several manufacturers’ stands to size up a few of the many new models for himself and to chat with some of the show’s visitors.

“The show has been fantastic!” said Harley-Davidson experiential marketing specialist, Marta Ostrowska. “We’ve been really busy and we’ve seen a lot of new customers. It’s felt a lot busier this year and our dealers are reporting really positive feedback already.”

Steve Clifford, sales director of Feridax, whose brands Sidi, Shoei and Spada sponsored Motorcycle Live’s Test Ride Zone commented: “We’ve concentrated on supporting our premium Shoei helmet brand this week and it’s been really busy for us. We’ve had a lot of enquiries and noticed a definite improvement in the quality of visitors to the show, and Shoei has really complemented that.”

Motorcycle Live organiser, Dean Linehan, was bubbling with enthusiasm as the curtain came down on Motorcycle Live 2013: “I think this really has been one of our best shows to date, helped, in no small way, by some fantastic new models that many of the manufacturers have introduced here.”

He added: “It was topped off by the visit on Saturday of The Duke of Cambridge, who demonstrated the same levels of enthusiasm for motorcycling that is shared by all the show’s visitors. We’re positive that this will give the entire UK motorcycle industry an important boost for 2014 and beyond.”

Motorcycle Live has released a video on yesterday's visit by HRH The Duke of Cambridge, which you can view by clicking here.
