  1. Rattlesden Five Bells Bike ShowThe show was held on the one acre meadow behind the Five Bells pub was a great success with a fantastic turn out of over 400 bikes of all types.

The weather was wonderful and everybody had a great time, supported and assisted by local community organizations. There was a small service by local rector Tiffer Robinson, together with the CMA, who blessed the bikes and remembered those no longer with us. Music was provided by Long Days a 3 piece blues/rock outfit from Ipswich. The meadow at the rear of the pub had to be closed at one point due to the high numbers of attendees and local residents allowed parking in their gardens.

The primary aim was to raise funds for the BBRF (British Biker Relief Foundation, registered as a small charity) and so they managed to raise £2000 for the charity to assist in their work.

Best in show was won by Clive Ransom, aka Hip from Solo Choppers on a 1976 Harley Shovelhead with paint by Hillary of Hurricane Airbrush Art. The landladies choice was Richard Battley aka Chum on a Harley Softail Breakout.

  2. THIS IS THE "HOME" TRACK FOR SYLVAIN GUINTOLI, LYING THIRD IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS.

MARCO MELANDRI: “I LIKE DONINGTON A LOT. IT'S THE PERFECT TRACK FOR TWO GREAT RACES”.

Donington (UK), 21 May 2014 – Leaving the throngs of fans behind from the Imola round, the World Superbike Championship travels to England, just a shout from the famous Sherwood Forest. The 4,023 metres that make up the Donington Circuit will set the stage this weekend for the fifth round of the 2014 season, which has the Aprilia Racing Team in the thick of the battle for the final victory in both the Rider standings (with Guintoli lying third, just 16 points from the top) and in the Manufacturer standings where Aprilia, reigning World Champion with the RSV4, is defending the title won last season.

The English track has a fast and flowing set up with a lot of up and downhill sections that follow the conformation of the hilly terrain. The section right before the finish is characterised by some violent braking and acceleration sections which have often set the stage for spectacular duels in the final laps of the race. As always, the weather conditions will be a huge question mark which can reshuffle the deck throughout the weekend.

Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli, lying third in the rider standings with 2 race wins under his belt already this season and as many podiums, will be playing on his "home" pitch as he lives just a few kilometres from the circuit. For Sylvain the 2014 season started off the best possible way. His feeling with the Aprilia RSV4 is perfect and the French rider's ambitions bring him to Donington with a specific goal of earning some important points in the battle for the championship.

Sylvain Guintoli: "I’m very excited to race in Donington, the only UK round in 2014. I live only 30 minutes from the track so it's like my home race, with many family and friends coming to support. I also love riding this track and had two strong results last year. I am ready for battle".

Encouraged by the tests held at Imola after the race weekend and spurred on by the desire to redeem himself, Marco Melandri sees Donington as the ideal circuit get his season on track. The extensive fine tuning that Marco and the Aprilia mechanics focused on at Imola produced good signs over the weekend there and a result worthy of the Italian duo seems to be just around the corner.

Marco Melandri: "Donington is a track that I like a lot and one that suits my riding style very well. I'm confident that the characteristics of the English circuit will suit my RSV4 much better than Imola. Let's hope the weather cooperates because I really want to ride two good races and redeem myself for a period which has been decidedly below my potential".

  3. Britain's four current MotoGP stars are set to experience the world's finest road race and take part in a parade lap at the 2014 Isle of Man TT Races fuelled by Monster Energy.

The four, Bradley Smith, Michael Laverty, Scott Redding and Isle of Man resident Cal Crutchlow, will all appear in the parade lap ahead of this year's 2014 PokerStars Senior TT on Friday 6th June.

Monster Energy Yamaha Tech 3 rider Bradley Smith has enjoyed the best start of the four in this year's Championship. He followed up his front row grid start in Qatar with a top five finish at the Grand Prix of the Americas, eighth in Jerez and tenth in Le Mans.

Ducati rider Cal Crutchlow confounded the sceptics with a sixth placed finish in the opening round although he crashed out in Austin when running fourth. He missed the Argentina GP with injury but has since returned and finished 11th in Le Mans

Go&Fun Honda Gresini's Scott Redding holds the distinction of being the youngest rider ever to win a GP race when he won the 125cc British Grand Prix at Donington in 2008 and finished a stunning seventh in his first MotoGP race. He has also had top fifteen finishes in Argentina, Jerez and Le Mans.

2007 British Supersport champion Michael Laverty, who is riding for PBM Aprilia in the premier class this year, completes the line up. He made his MotoGP debut last year with a best placed finish of thirteenth in Spain and has finished sixteenth in four out of the five rounds this season.

Bennetts/Bike Nation Ambassador Scott Redding commented:

"The TT guys are unique in motorcycle racing. I have huge respect and admiration for what they do. The chance to ride round the TT course on a closed road is a brilliant opportunity for me to experience something different and I'm really looking forward to getting out to the Island to meet the TT fans, see the racing first hand and get a lap in as well."

  4. Anger is mounting in the town over the state of Westbury’s roads and the growing number of dangerous potholes.

The issue was aggravated by the wet winter and now there have been calls for Wiltshire Council to act. There are also concerns that Wiltshire Council have ‘cut corners’ with temporary repairs that only last a few days.

New Westbury Mayor, cllr Christine Mitchell said, “The potholes are atrocious in Westbury, something needs to be done. The potholes can’t always be avoided, it is an accident waiting to happen. If there is water in the potholes then it is difficult for cyclists or motorcyclists to know how deep the hole is. I can’t say it is only Wiltshire though, it seems to be bad in other counties as well.”

Wiltshire Council had 40 percent more potholes reported in the first two months of 2014 compared to 2013. This equates to more than 2,600 carriageway defects compared to around 1,900 last year. This led to the council investing an extra £250,000 at the start of 2014 to combat the problem.

Wiltshire councillor Terry Chivers says he believes that Wiltshire Council cut corners when trying to fix the potholes. He said, “I’m receiving complaints that these temporary repairs are only lasting a few days and often only a few hours. It seems to me and to most people, that it must be much easier and cheaper to do a proper job than bodge it.”

There is some good news on the horizon, though, after Wiltshire Council was awarded an extra £3million to repair potholes. This is part of the £168million Pothole Repair Fund the government has allocated towards fixing more than three million potholes across the UK to make roads safer and smoother for motorists, cyclists and other road users.

However, the priorities for pothole repair have not yet been set and so it is unclear if Westbury will be benefitting from the Pothole Repair Fund.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council said, “This money will be used to repair and resurface the worst affected stretches of road. Wiltshire Council are spending a huge amount of money on roads but the full programme for this has not yet been set.

  5. In the past few weeks there has been a few reported thefts from tents on the Biker circuit.

It appears that the perpetrators follow drunk people back to their tents, wait until they fall asleep, pretend to have an argument outside the victims tent, then one enters the tent and routes around to find cameras and wallets, while the other keeps watch. These unscrupulous thieves are mainly looking for top of the range phones and money, as others have found wallets the following day on the field with cards still inside.

It seems they are watching people as they takes photos at the event with a 'fancy phone camera' and then target these people when they head off to their tents, await for them to 'pass out' intoxicated and then whilst they are in a deep sleep, enter their tents to steal their mobiles and wallets. Another 'technique' is to shake a tent and call out something like 'Mark are you in there?'

Pete Walker, organiser of The Farmyard Party said "The best and safe way to store your phone a purse/wallet is at the bottom of your sleeping bag, simply throw them down to the end of the bag and the thief wont risk putting him/her down there to get at your stuff. Never leave wallets, purses, phones or money in your tent whilst you’re away from it. If you can, meet your camping neighbours and watch out for each other."

There will be lockers for hire at this years Farmyard @ a £5, which will easily take six peoples mobiles and wallets.

We urge people to be more vigilant until these pesky thieves stop targeting Motorcycle events!
