  1. Touratech Parts for the BMW R 1300 GS

    Posted on

The first accessory products for the brand new BMW R 1300 GS are already
available from Touratech. And the range continues to grow rapidly. A brief overview.

No sooner were the first demonstrators at the BMW Motorrad dealers’ than the first selection of accessories for customising the BMW R 1300 GS were available from Touratech. This makes it possible for freshly minted owners of the new GS to fully exploit the potential of their 1300 from the very beginning.
The requirements of tour riders were taken into account in the initial edition of the range, as were the wishes of offroad-oriented GS riders.

Protectors for travel and offroad use
When it comes to protection, the completely new engine crash bar “Sport”, catches the eye. The contour of this engine crash bar is matched 100 per cent to the valve cover of the 1300 Boxer. Should your machine tip over, the bar absorbs the resulting forces and distributes them neatly. In an emergency, the slider is supported flat against the valve cover. Thanks to the line of the elegant tubular construction, which is nestled closely to the engine, banking freedom is fully maintained. The new concept of the engine crash bar “Sport” reflects the perfect synthesis of functionality and design.
Of course, there is also the classic engine crash bar for the R 1300 GS, which encloses the two cylinders like a cage. The combination of 25 x 2 mm stainless steel tubes and three-millimetre thick, three-dimensionally shaped stainless steel sheets combines maximum strength with an unrivalled low weight – and enormous protection.
If you opt for this product from the BMW accessories range, you benefit from the reinforcement strut for the original BMW engine crash bar, a valuable addition that significantly improves the protective effect.
The bodywork and radiator are reliably protected from crash damage by the fairing crash bar, which is also made of stainless steel tubing. High protection and a spectacular look are combined in the headlight guard with quick-release fastener made of stainless steel, which reflects the x-shaped arrangement of the LEDs in its eye-catching form.
Already proven over millions of kilometres of track on the predecessor models, the engine guard “Expedition” made of folded and welded four millimetre thick aluminium sheet is also available for the R 1300 GS.

    Customised luggage systems
Since BMW offers no factory-supplied rack for aluminium pannier systems for the
R 1300 GS, the Touratech stainless steel pannier rack is an absolute must for travellers. The proven basic construction made of 18 x 2-millimetre stainless steel tube has undergone major further development especially for the new GS. Completely new, patented connecting elements and 3D lugs made of three-dimensionally shaped, three-millimetre-thick stainless steel offer greater rigidity than classic designs as well as reducing the weight. In addition, the rack is only 50 centimetres wide, which means that the rear of the GS remains slim and manageable even with bulky panniers. The rack can be optionally equipped with aluminium panniers from the ZEGA Evo, ZEGA Pro or ZEGA Mundo series, each in different sizes and finishes.
For mounting a ZEGA top case or lashing a luggage roll, Touratech offers the ZEGA top case rack/ luggage rack made of electropolished stainless steel.
The inner pockets for the original BMW Vario panniers or the Vario topcase are a practical and stylish addition, creating order in your pannier and making it easier to transport luggage to your hotel room.
These and numerous other Touratech parts for the BMW R 1300 GS are now available in our webshop. And it pays to keep an eye out: the range is being expanded continuously..

    Posted on

Motorcycle number plates serve as a distinctive identification mark on the roads of the United Kingdom. To ensure uniformity, legibility, and adherence to road safety standards, the UK government has established specific guidelines for the design, size, and style of motorcycle number plates. In this article, we delve into the essential requirements for the smallest legal motorcycle number plates, explore the permissible sizes, delve into popular plate styles like 4D and Gel, and shed light on reputable suppliers like JDM Plates.  Small Motorbike Number Plates, Smallest Motorcycle Number Plates

Requirements for Smallest Legal Motorcycle Number Plates

    • Legibility and Typeface: The foremost requirement for any motorcycle number plate is legibility. Characters must be easily readable by both human observers and automated systems, such as ANPR cameras. The DfT mandates the use of a standard typeface (Charles Wright), ensuring consistency in appearance and ease of recognition.

    • Character Size and Spacing: Adhering to precise dimensions is crucial. For motorcycle number plates, character height should be 64mm, width should be 44mm, and the space between characters should be 10mm. These dimensions contribute to optimal visibility, enhancing safety on the roads.

    • Material and Reflectivity: The reflective material used for number plates ensures visibility during various lighting conditions, making it easier for other road users and law enforcement to read the plate. Number plates must meet British Standards for reflectivity and construction.

    • Background and Colours: A solid yellow background with a is mandatory for UK motorcycle number plates. However, Black and silver plates can be used on motorcycles older than 1980.

    • Supplier Information and Legal Markings: Legally compliant number plates must display the manufacturer or supplier's name and postcode at the bottom of the plate. Additionally, a British Standard number (such as BS AU 145d) and a mark indicating the plate's legality should be present.

Permissible Sizes for Motorcycle Number Plates

The prescribed dimensions for motorcycle number plates are designed to balance aesthetics with functionality. While personalization is desired, it is crucial to ensure compliance with the following sizes:

    • Character Height: 64mm
    • Character Width: 44mm
    • Space Between Characters: 10mm

With the above dimensions considered, the smallest legal number plate size can vary depending on the registration number!

Number Plate Styles: 4D and Gel

In addition to adhering to the size and design regulations, motorcycle owners can choose from a variety of plate styles, including 4D and Gel plates:

    • 4D Plates: Known for their three-dimensional appearance, 4D plates add depth to the characters, enhancing the visual appeal of the number plate. These plates are created using laser-cut letters and numbers mounted on a flat acrylic surface.
    •
    • Gel Plates: Gel plates offer a glossy, raised finish, enhancing the characters' visibility and giving the plate a distinctive look. The gel resin is applied over the characters, creating an eye-catching effect.

Reputable Number Plate Suppliers such as JDM Plates  JDM Plates, Small Motorbike Number Plates

Among the reputable suppliers of motorcycle number plates in the UK, JDM Plates stands out as a reliable option.
